Races in Salisbury Cancelled: Track Unfit Due to Heavy Rains.
According to The Sun: Races in Salisbury were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, as the track became 'unfit for racing' due to heavy rain.
The most important event planned for tomorrow was the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes.
AlamyThe race was cancelled after significant rainfall affected the track.
The officials who conducted an inspection at 9 AM were unable to make any other decision due to persistent rains.
The track in Wiltshire received another 17 mm of rain overnight, adding to 10 mm from the previous day and 30 mm from last Wednesday.
A statement from the track said:
“The race is cancelled tomorrow (September 4) due to the unsafe condition of the track and areas flooded after 58 mm of rain in recent days, with potential further downpours expected over the next two days.”
This occurred nearly one year after the last race cancellation in Salisbury.
On September 5 of last year, the races were cancelled an hour before the start due to flooding.
At this moment, it is unclear if this meeting will be rescheduled.
Track clerk Jeremy Martin told the Racing Post:
“This is a great shame. I have been working here for 25 years, and this is the second time in a row that we have lost a major meeting. The weather changed last week, and since then we have had 60 mm of rain. We are in discussions about a possible rescheduling. We hope the weather next week will be much more favorable, and while it is still uncertain, there is a genuine interest in rescheduling.”
It’s worth mentioning that similar cancellations due to weather conditions are not uncommon in racing. This highlights the importance of the safety of participants and spectators, as well as the impact of weather on sporting events. Racers and organizers hope that the weather will improve soon, and competitions will resume again.
