Ange Postecoglou spoke about his dismissal from Tottenham: what really happened.
According to The Sun: Ange Postecoglou learned about the possible dismissal from Tottenham a few weeks before the final decision. However, he decided not to overshadow the celebration of the team's victory in the Europa League and chose not to share this information with fans.
Getty GettyPostecoglou, who became the new manager of Nottingham Forest just three months after his departure from Tottenham, said: "I knew this was going to happen."
"I knew about this for a long time, well before others found out."
"It wasn't a decision - it just ended."
"It wasn't a surprise, even though I didn't think it was the right thing."
When asked who informed him about this, the 60-year-old Australian merely smiled: "That's for my book."
He did not want to specify who exactly made the decision about his dismissal - the then club chairman Daniel Levy, who was also dismissed last week. Postecoglou believed that revealing this information after Tottenham's success in Bilbao would be wrong.
More than 225,000 fans took to the streets to celebrate the 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
Postecoglou said: "It was strange, but I didn't want to spoil that night or the parade."
"I couldn't let that happen. It wouldn't have been fair to me or my family."
"I wanted people to enjoy the moment, and I enjoyed it too."
"We know how hard it is to achieve success - and when it happens, you appreciate it and celebrate."
"There are moments that will stay with me forever, with the players, staff, and our families."
"But it was hard. It has never happened to me before, as at every club I've been at, I've been successful."
"There were no reasons for anyone to dismiss me."
"I succeeded again. That's what the club was after."
"Tottenham hasn't won anything for a long time."
"Every Tottenham fan I meet wants to hug me and invite me to dinner. It seems like I did something right!"
"We do it for this. I am very proud of what we achieved there. It will always hold a special place in my heart."
"Do I think it was unfair? Others make these decisions."
When asked about Levy, he noted: "I don't think this is a conversation where I can elaborate."
"I didn't have much interaction with Daniel Levy."
"He has been there for a long time and invested a lot in the football club to raise it to the level it is now."
"He appointed me, so I have to be grateful to him for that. I hope I repaid him by winning this trophy."
