According to The Sun: For the first time, Birds Eye fish fingers appeared on store shelves 70 years ago. These are well-known snacks that are now sold at Aldi in record numbers – 500 pieces per minute.

In order to compare different brands and prices, Laura Stott tested several options of fish fingers and shared her impressions.

Omega 3 10 Fish Fingers

£1.06 (10p each), 300g, Morrisons

Damien McFadden

These sticks made from Alaskan pollock turned out to be quite salty, but still edible. A few lost their coating during cooking, but remained nicely golden.

The taste was not very intense, but this can be a plus for picky eaters.

RATING: 2/5

10 Omega 3 Fish Fingers

£1.04 (10p each), 300g, Asda

Damien McFadden

This option is also made from Alaskan pollock, which helps keep the price down. It appears to have a pleasant color and quite firm texture.

The fish flavor was not pronounced, but the breading looked delicious, although it was a bit oversalted.

The sticks are small, so you might need more for a full snack.

RATING: 3/5

10 Cod Fish Fingers

£1.79 (18p each), 300g, Lidl

Damien McFadden

These sticks are made from pure cod, making consumption a bit more expensive, but the taste is pleasant.

The breading, however, appeared to have an overly bright, artificial orange hue.

Other sticks are additionally seasoned with turmeric or paprika, but the color here could have been reduced.

RATING: 2/5

10 Fish Fingers

£2.30 (23p each), 300g, M&S

Damien McFadden

These sticks contain cod filling, making them more expensive.

They look simple, but when bitten, you get large pieces of fish.

These sticks may be too 'fishy' for some, but seafood lovers will appreciate them.

The breading is crispy and tasty.

RATING: 3/5

10 Cod Fish Fingers

£1.79 (18p each), 300g, Tesco

Damien McFadden

This pack contains more expensive, boneless cod with a pleasant texture.

The sticks are of good size, with no unnecessary ingredients, so you immediately feel the true taste.

The breading is very tasty and crispy.

RATING: 5/5

10 Breaded Cod Fish Fingers

£1.79 (18p each), 300g, Aldi

Damien McFadden

These sticks are well-seasoned, but the cod filling was a bit softer than expected.

A few pieces were mushy inside, but with ketchup or mayonnaise, this is not noticeable.

RATING: 3/5

Simply 10 Fish Fingers

80p (8p each), 250g, Lidl

Damien McFadden

These sticks cost less than a pound and are made from Alaskan pollock. I didn't expect them to have as much flavor as the more expensive options.

Nevertheless, they came out of the oven with an incredible smell and taste.

The breading has a bright orange hue and is pleasantly crispy.

RATING: 5/5

10 Cod Fillet Fish Fingers

£1.79 (18p each), 300g, Sainsbury’s

Damien McFadden

These sticks are made from Atlantic fish supplied from certified sustainable sources, and looked very appetizing after cooking.
