Apple crumble recognized as the favorite dessert: a review of the tastiest options in supermarkets.
According to The Sun: HOLD! The apple crumble has been awarded the title of the country's favorite dessert.
Sweet tooth enthusiasts have chosen it as the best part of the Sunday lunch according to a recent survey.
ShutterstockThis dessert is typically made with apples baked under a crisp flour topping and served with a generous portion of vanilla sauce.
Ready-made versions of this traditional sweet treat are easy to find in stores.
However, which of the store-bought options can withstand the competition – and which ones leave much to be desired?
To find out, Laura Stott tried various options and rated them on a scale from one to five.
Bramley Apple Crumbles
M&S and Ocado, £3.30
Damien McFadden
These crumbles from M&S and Ocado have a pleasant caramel aroma.
With 42% apple pieces and 11% butter, the portions turned out to be very fruity. The fruits remained firm and had a noticeable crunch, but they blended at the edges during heating, many of them stayed on the walls of the container.
These crumbles had a large amount of fruit and a nice golden topping, suitable for a small serving for one person, but their price is quite high.
RATING: 3/5
Apple Crumbles
Tesco, £2.80
Damien McFadden
I was surprised by the generous amount of apples in these portions, although each container is quite small. However, the apple pieces turned out to be soft and not very tasty.
The topping, which supposedly contains oats, is barely noticeable, and the texture was too fine and powdery. Overall, the dessert lacked a homemade flavor and was too sweet.
Although the price is good, heating a portion in the microwave won’t be a challenge.

Fruity Filling Bramley Apple Crumbles
Co-op, £2.85
Damien McFadden
These desserts impress with their taste, containing 42% Bramley apples and 8% oats. The topping has a pleasant nutty texture – perhaps the best out of all individual portions, and 3% butter gives them a special flavor.
The apple paste on top makes the dessert incredibly tasty, and they also have an appetizing aroma. Perfect to serve with a generous portion of sauce for a cozy autumn dessert.
RATING: 4/5
Bramley Apple Crumbles
Sainsbury’s, £2.45
Damien McFadden
These crumbles are small – not for those who love hearty desserts. The filling made from Bramley apples (38% fruit) is tasty, but the fruits are a bit watery.
The crunchy oats (1%), added to the topping, only slightly enhance the texture, but there could have been more – especially for such a price.
RATING: 2/5
Apple Crumble
Morrisons, £2.50
Damien McFadden
This crumble contains 36% apples, flour, brown sugar, butter, and apple juice, and its simple composition resembles a homemade recipe.
The dessert has many large apple chunks, and the topping was delicious – I couldn't stop even when I finished the portion.
The baking dish is smaller but deeper, generously filled with fruit and a tasty crumb topping with a sweet top – perfect with sauce or ice cream. The taste is excellent, and the price is appealing.
RATING: 5/5
The Bakery Apple Crumble
Asda, £3.98
Damien McFadden
In a 500 g size, you get more dessert for the whole family after Sunday lunch, and there might even be some left for Monday.
Bramley apples in these crumbles (32% composition) are cut into large juicy pieces that do not fall apart.
The topping turned out buttery but not too sweet, and its 3% oats add crunch and texture, which is undoubtedly good for the stomach.
Very tasty.

The Dessert Menu Bramley Apple Crumble
Aldi, £2.95
Damien McFadden
This dessert may be a bit expensive for a budget supermarket, but it is made with quality ingredients. It has 39% Bramley apples and the topping is made with salted butter, giving the dessert a balanced flavor.
Significant 9% oats in the topping make it truly filling and tasty. Bake a large portion in the oven for 30 minutes, and you'll get an aromatic dessert with a golden top, perfect for a family dinner.
RATING: 4/5
Rowan Hill Apple Crumble Cake
Lidl, £1.99
Damien McFadden
This interesting approach to the traditional apple crumble is a three-dimensional pastry with an apple filling and a thick golden crumb on top.
This dessert can be served hot or cold, but the latter will be stickier. For the best taste, it is recommended to heat it in the oven for five minutes.
Thanks to its shape, it is easy to transport. However, opening the packaging might be inconvenient.
Since the filling contains only 9% real apples, the taste comes out sweeter, but this price is quite enough to feed up to eight people.
