Starting financial difficulties
Seb first fell into debt in 2019 while trying to realize his dream of owning a business. At that time, he was working at the local council, but this job did not satisfy him – the young man wanted to engage in digital marketing.
Despite his main job, he tried to launch his company DBSS Digital Ltd., which required significant spending on online courses, advertising, and conferences.
“I was just spending all the money I had on things I didn't have,” recalls Seb.
Time of difficulties
In 2020, his situation worsened significantly. At its worst, the total debt reached £21,000, and Seb considered entering into an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA), but eventually decided to deal with it on his own.
It was a tough struggle, but even in the darkest times, Seb was not going to give up. “I thought that if I made enough sales, everything would work out,” he shares.
Fortunately, the business began to turn a profit at the beginning of 2021, and Seb decided to reach out to his creditors to explain his situation.
“I just said that I had a lot of debt, but I wanted to pay it off, I needed a little help,” he notes.
Getting out of debt
Some companies agreed to reduce interest rates, allowing Seb to focus on repayments. He created a spreadsheet to keep track of debts and monthly payments, which helped him track his progress.
Seb cut expenses and learned to live frugally. “I became very careful about spending, rarely going out,” he says.
After much effort, he was able to pay off all his debts by the end of 2022. “I will always remember the last payment on my credit card,” Seb adds.
A new life
In 2023, Seb and his girlfriend Lydia, who also saved £10,000, were able to buy their first home for £295,000. The couple is now preparing to become parents.
“When I was in debt, I wondered if I would ever be able to get my own place,” he admits.
Now Seb feels much better financially and has created an emergency fund for unforeseen expenses.
“If I have a good month, I spend more freely, and if not – I try to cut expenses,” he says.
The story of Seb Brantigan is a vivid example of how perseverance and proper financial management can change a life. He proved that with determination and support, any difficulties can be overcome. Now his new stage of life symbolizes not only victory over debts but also new opportunities that come with buying his own home.
