Beloved coffee liqueur Patrón XO Cafe returns to Tesco after 4 years.
According to The Sun: The popular coffee liqueur that was discontinued four years ago is returning to Tesco shelves.
This iconic drink was canceled by Bacardi, which decided to focus on the production of 'ultra-premium tequila'.
Patrón XO Cafe returns to Tesco shelves nationwideThe end of Patrón XO Cafe was a real shock for fans: people even created a petition on Change.org to force the manufacturer to change its decision.
Now Tesco offers Mexican Silver Tequila for £46 for 70cl.
However, the price turned out to be £16 higher than four years ago, when a bottle cost £30.
This liqueur is handcrafted, represents a dry, low-proof coffee drink made from Patrón Silver and coffee essence. It contains 100% Weber Blue agave – a plant native to Mexico.
One shopper left a review on the Tesco website:
“Absolute perfection and a true delight for coffee lovers, smooth as silk, and rich.”
Bottles can be found in stores and online at the Tesco website.
Last year, liqueur enthusiasts celebrated significant news: Patrón XO became available again at The Alchemist chains across the country.
This chain has branches in cities like London, Birmingham, and Leeds.
In 2021, Bacardi's chief operating officer, Mauricio Vergara, announced the halt of liqueur production.
“We want to focus on developing and protecting the production of our core super and ultra-premium tequilas,”he stated in an interview with The Grocer.
He also mentioned that the company would direct its resources to Patrón Silver, Patrón Reposado, Patrón Añejo, and other products from the Patrón line.
Social media users described this news as a real heartbreak. They emphasized that this drink is the first choice when ordering at the bar, as 'it's easier to swallow than other alcoholic drinks.'
On Twitter, one user wrote:
“This is the worst day of my life,”while others joked about buying coffee liqueur instead of gasoline.
Another user shared:
“Just found out that Cafe Patron is no longer being produced, what a terrible Friday it has been.”
Other drinks returning
In beverage news, Coca-Cola is bringing back Diet Cherry Coke for the first time since 2018.
Meanwhile, during the summer, the popular drink from the 1990s has reappeared on shelves after a 20-year absence.
Additionally, last year, The Sun reported that Double Diamond is making a comeback.
Double Diamond was first produced in 1876 as an Indian beer.
This drink was so popular that it was advertised at Piccadilly Circus, using the slogan 'Double Diamond does wonders.'
Sales of over 50 million pints a year almost led to its nationalization in the 1960s.
The return of Patrón XO Cafe once again confirms how resilient the tradition of liqueur production is, even when it sometimes sounds like a loss. Fans who demanded its return demonstrate how much the community can love their favorite drink and are willing to do anything to preserve it. A bright example of how products that have left marks on consumers' hearts can find a second chance in the market.
