ISIS returns: British intelligence warned of increased threat from terrorists.
The General Director of MI5 security service Ken McCallum stated that ISIS has resumed its attempts to export terrorism to Britain. He also warned of an increased terrorist threat from al-Qaeda and especially from ISIS. Over the last month, more than a third of MI5 investigations were linked to organized foreign terrorist groups.
McCallum also warned of the growing influence of Russia and Iran on UK territory. He noted that the number of MI5 investigations regarding these countries has increased by nearly half over the year. The Russian GRU is actively creating chaos on British and European streets.
Since Putin's invasion of Ukraine, more than 750 Russian diplomats, who were spies, have been expelled. This year, proxies used by hostile states to carry out illegal actions in the UK and abroad have also become more common.
McCallum called on potential criminals willing to take money from Iran or Russia to make an informed choice and be aware of the consequences of their actions. He also warned of the growing threat that Iran represents to Britain, and noted that since 2022, Britain has responded to 20 potentially deadly Iranian plots.
