Ihor Kostyuk on Matviy Ponomarenko: 'He Scores in Every Game, Yet Still Has Room to Grow'.
Ihor Kostyuk's Assessment of Matviy Ponomarenko
According to Novyny.live: Dynamo Kyiv's head coach, Ihor Kostyuk, has evaluated the performance of forward Matviy Ponomarenko, acknowledging his scoring record while stressing the young player still has areas to improve. Ponomarenko has made the jump from the U-19 squad to the senior team, where he continues to find the net in every match.
Kostyuk stated that the coaching staff is not surprised by Ponomarenko's success, as they are well aware of his strengths. 'We aren't surprised because we know Matviy and his abilities well. After moving up from the U19s to the main squad, he keeps scoring in every game, maintaining the required level, and creating chances. But there's no need for any special compliments because he still has a lot to work on. His game currently has many shortcomings,' Kostyuk noted.
The Importance of Goalscoring and Potential Squad Changes
Furthermore, he emphasized the critical importance of goalscoring for a striker. 'For a forward, the most important metric remains effectiveness. A striker's primary task is to score goals,' the coach underlined.
Matviy Ponomarenko's success highlights the productive work of the Dynamo academy, which consistently supplies talented players to the first team. However, the coach warns that overconfidence could hinder the young footballer's development. With potential changes to the squad looming, including the possible sale of Supriaha, Ponomarenko could become a key figure in Dynamo's attack. This transition underscores the importance of his continued progress and adaptation to the senior level, which could significantly impact the team's strategy in future matches and the club's overall potential this season. His rise is a classic example of a promising academy graduate being carefully integrated into a top-flight side.
