According to The Sun: Harry Kane couldn't hold back his emotions as he presented the debut cap to the England newcomer.

Spence, 25, made his national team debut coming on when the score was already in England's favor.

The Tottenham player, who briefly played alongside Kane before his move to Bayern, made history during his 21-minute appearance.

Emotional moment of the captain's presentation

Spence became the first Muslim to represent the England men's national team.

In the dressing room after the game, Kane delivered a short speech while presenting Spence with his debut cap.

“Today we have a new debutant. I asked to do this because I saw this player three or four years ago at Tottenham, and he had to go through a lot of challenges.”
“He had to tough it out. He worked hard. Now he is an England player, and he fully deserves it.”
“I’m a little emotional because I know how much effort it takes to get here, and I thought about how hard it was for him.”

Spence hugged Kane as the captain handed him the cap, while the rest of the players applauded his achievement.

Path to the national team

Spence has had a challenging journey to the England national team, having to fight through lower leagues and go on loan several times.

The left-back joined Tottenham from Middlesbrough in 2022, hoping to become a key player in London.

However, coaching changes at the club hindered his chances to establish himself, and he was loaned out to Stade Rennes and Leeds over the years.

Now he is one of Tottenham's most consistent players and received a call-up to the national team from Thomas Tuchel after starting in all Premier League matches under the new club coach.

Commenting on his role as the first Muslim player for England, Spence said:

“I was surprised because I didn’t know I was the first, so it is a blessing.”
“It’s nice to make history, and I hope to inspire young people all around the world to achieve similar.”
“Regardless of the religion you believe in, just believe in God.”

Spence also added:

“God is the greatest for me personally, and He never lets down. Days like today are special because of God for me.”
