Probability expert reveals the secret to winning EuroMillions: which numbers to choose.
According to The Sun: How many dreams arise when you think about how to spend the money won in EuroMillions? A luxury mansion or shopping at Selfridges?
Today’s £43 million win in EuroMillions could bring you closer to making your dream come true. Readers of The Sun can increase their chances of winning thanks to advice from the probability expert.
Probability expert David Hodge reveals which numbers to pick and which to avoid John and Jess Tweit won £184 million, becoming the second-largest winners in EuroMillions in the UK PADr. David Hodge, a statistics lecturer at the University of Glasgow and an ambassador for the Royal Statistical Society since 2018, shares tips on how to increase your chances of winning EuroMillions tonight.
Each week millions of people buy tickets, so you will need all the help you can get to compete with other hopefuls for the £43 million prize.
Not long ago, a lucky Irish family syndicate won a record £213 million, setting a new record for EuroMillions.
To participate, you need to choose five numbers from 1 to 50 and two 'lucky stars' from 1 to 12, or you can use 'lucky dip', where the numbers are chosen randomly.
If someone wins the jackpot tonight, they will be richer than stars like Tom Holland, Stormzy, or Jude Bellingham.
David’s tips for choosing winning numbers
One way to increase your chances of winning is to buy more tickets. However, remember to play responsibly: set a spending limit before you start playing.
“Any prize can theoretically be shared, so you want to be the only one to win if you win.”
Choose 'boring' numbers
Statistically, each number has the same chance of being drawn, so there are no 'lucky' numbers.
David advises avoiding commonly chosen numbers to increase your chances of keeping the win.
He suggests: “Choose boring numbers that don’t stand out.”
These could be numbers like 24, 13, or 32, which have been chosen an average number of times.
Do not pick 'dependent' numbers
The same goes for numbers that supposedly 'deserve' to be drawn because they have been drawn less frequently.
“People might think that if a number has been drawn rarely, it will come up soon, but that’s nonsense – past numbers don’t influence what will happen in the future.”
Choosing 'unusual' combinations is a mistake
If you lean towards combinations like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, you risk sharing the prize with other players.
“If you think a combination is unusual, then chances are others think so too.”
Why 'lucky dip' can be true luck
The key is to avoid numerical patterns on your EuroMillions ticket. The easiest option is to select 'lucky dip'.
“People poorly choose random numbers, so it’s better to let the computer choose them for you.”
