According to The Sun: The man claims he is being asked to pay £3,800 to have his neighbor's massive hedge trimmed, after the neighbor refused to do it.

Dispute with neighbors

He says he was ignored when he tried to ask his neighbor to trim his hedge, so he decided to file a complaint with the local council under anti-social behavior legislation.

But he was shocked to learn that he would have to pay £3,800 for his case to be considered.

Daniel, a 46-year-old father who left teaching after 25 years to care for his disabled daughter, accused the council of putting up barriers for people wanting to resolve such disputes.

“They won’t even read the form if you don’t pay this crazy fee. It just excludes everyone who wants to complain about a hedge,” said Daniel.

The man, who moved into the property in 2017, claims that a row of conifer trees now exceeds the height of his house in Bournemouth, Dorset by more than a meter.

He also notes that the large hedges completely block sunlight in his garden, and that his neighbor ignored his requests.

Daniel noted: “I don’t expect my neighbor to trim the hedge to 2 meters – I just need a little sunlight in the garden.”

The real problem

“Every year it gets worse, especially in winter. The garden is constantly in the shade and nothing grows,” he reiterated.
>The single father of three officially approached the BCP council under the Anti-Social Behavior Act 2003, which allows citizens to challenge 'high hedges' if their height exceeds two meters and significantly impact the use of the property.

According to the council's statement, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council said that “the fee covers the costs of the investigation.”

BNPS BNPS The issue of hedges blocking sunlight is a concern for many residents. According to the legislation, communities have the opportunity to contact local authorities to resolve such situations, but often not everyone takes advantage of this due to the high cost. Daniel's situation again highlights the importance of having access to effective mechanisms for resolving neighbor disputes without unnecessary financial barriers.
