How to find bargain shopping

SUN Savers editor Lana Clements explains how to find cheap products and score great deals...

Sign up for loyalty programs for brands you frequently visit.

Major retailers often offer discounts or special prices for members.

Sales are a great opportunity to find genuine bargains.

Retailers usually run promotions linked to the end of the month or holidays, so keep an eye on those offers.

Subscribe to newsletters to stay updated on special promotions. It's also useful to follow brands on social media.

When shopping online, look for discount codes or coupons. Websites like vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk collect promotions by store names.

Scanning apps are very helpful. For example, the Trolley.co.uk app allows you to compare prices on brand-name products while shopping.

You can also use the B&M Scanner to spot discounts in-store before they are marked by staff.

Don't forget to check if you can get cashback before you pay - this allows you to get some of your expenses back.

Customers were amazed when they noticed Caramac chocolates for just 25 pence at B&M.

They can purchase a three-pack for 75 pence - that's just 25 pence for each chocolate bar.

Caramac was discontinued in November 2023 due to declining sales.

However, the beloved chocolate has reappeared in retail chains.

How to save on supermarket shopping

There are many ways to save on your grocery shopping.

Look for yellow or red stickers on products - they indicate discounted prices.

If products are fresh, try to use them quickly or freeze them for later.

Creating a shopping list helps avoid impulse spending during a supermarket trip.

Choosing own-brand products can significantly save your budget - that means opting for less 'luxurious' options in favor of more affordable ones.

Many supermarkets run programs selling 'ugly' fruits and vegetables at advantageous prices.

For example, Lidl runs a Waste Not program, offering boxes of fruits and vegetables weighing 5 kg for just 1.50 pounds.

If you are a low-income parent, you can receive up to £442 a year in Healthy Start vouchers for shopping at supermarkets.

Many local councils also provide shopping vouchers as part of household aid.
