Michael, the father of two children, confirmed in May that he had divorced his wife Daphne, with whom he had lived for more than ten years.
After announcing his divorce, he decided to take a break from the sport to adapt to the new circumstances.
During this time he dedicated himself to 'nice things,' including the Tomorrowland festival and parties in Ibiza.
“I am just a person, you know. At some point, you want to think about nice things and not just about what is happening around,” he said in an interview.
Van Gerwen also noted that he is trying to create a new schedule where his children are a priority for him.
“I am still in the process of divorce. Not everything will be sorted out in a few days. I am dealing with final arrangements and consequences,” he added.
While vacationing in Ibiza, he was spotted at a Martin Garrix concert in the famous beach club Ushuaia.
Despite rumors that Van Gerwen is losing focus on darts, he denied them, explaining that he spends time with his children.
“I still love darts, and for me, it is not a loss of priority. But with the birth of my children, I have always said that darts is not my first priority. My children are my number one priority,” he stated.
Van Gerwen returned to competition, defeating Wessel Nijman 6-5 at the World Series of Darts tournament in Amsterdam while preparing to face Rob Cross in the next round.
