Harry Redknapp supports the idea of holding Premier League matches abroad

According to The Sun: Harry Redknapp has expressed support for holding English Premier League matches outside of Great Britain, stating that it "has to happen."

The question of holding matches in other countries has been discussed for almost two decades. However, the initiative has yet to come to fruition due to negative reactions from fans and media, known as "Game 39."

La Liga has already received permissions to hold a match between Barcelona and Villarreal in Miami

La Liga plans to hold a match in Miami where Barcelona will meet Villarreal in December, despite opposition from Spanish authorities and FIFA. This match has already been approved by UEFA, which also greenlit a match in Serie A between AC Milan and Como in Australia in February.

Harry Redknapp's statements

On the podcast "The Managers," Redknapp mentioned: "It's only a matter of time before matches are held abroad. This has to happen."

"You see all the foreign owners now – they will want to take matches over there. I've seen American football played at Tottenham's stadium. It's going to happen."

Redknapp is confident that foreign owners will have a significant impact on decisions in the Premier League, noting that soon there will be no English or British owners left.

Despite La Liga and Serie A receiving permission to hold matches abroad, UEFA management remains opposed to this initiative. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said: "Summer matches should be held on home soil."

"Our commitment is clear – to protect the integrity of national leagues."

The CEO of the Premier League, Richard Masters, also emphasized that there is currently no desire to hold matches abroad.

"We addressed this issue back in 2008. It caused a lot of controversy in the UK."

"But we managed to resolve this issue in other ways."

Redknapp participated in the podcast "The Managers," which is available on Spotify and Apple Music.

The discussion regarding holding Premier League matches abroad is gaining momentum, especially against the backdrop of La Liga and Serie A, which have already received the necessary permissions. The only serious opponent to this idea remains UEFA, which emphasizes its position in defending national leagues. Further steps towards implementing this initiative could significantly change the football landscape in Europe.
