Last week, while training young boxers like Kian Hedderman, Tadgh O'Donnell, and his cousin Jim Donovan, the 26-year-old realized he has become a veteran.
“Andy said: 'Paddy, let the younger guys work hard today, and you rest.'
“I thought: 'God, am I really getting old?'
“However, being a veteran at such a young age and already achieving significant results in the sport is an achievement in itself. But I am eager to become a world champion.”
Donovan noted that he is ready for new challenges after his tough loss to Lewis Crocker by disqualification in March, and now seeks to rectify that mistake in the title fight.
“Every young boxer wants to stay undefeated. But it’s not the end of the world — losing in that way is in the past, and we’re just looking forward to this fight.”
For Donovan's team, it's important that the first fight was a qualifying match, and now they have a chance for greatness by winning the title.
Donovan won 13 Irish titles in amateur boxing and achieved 14 victories in his professional career before the loss to Crocker.
“I believe everything happened for a reason. Now we are ready to move to the next level.”
He believes the chance to become a world champion is significant, and he is ready to meet his opponent.
“I believe that the fight against Crocker is my chance to become one of the best professionals in Irish history.”
Donovan aims to become only the third world champion among Irish travelers, following the examples of his trainer Andy Lee and cousin Tyson Fury.
This fight could be a pivotal moment in Donovan's career as he has already achieved serious success on the amateur stage. The title fight will undoubtedly bring many emotions and mark a new chapter for the 26-year-old boxer. We will watch closely as events unfold, as this is Donovan's chance to secure his name in the history of Irish boxing.
