Israel Conducted Airstrikes on Beirut Central

On Thursday morning, October 3, Israel conducted airstrikes on the center of Beirut. The strikes were in response to the largest clash in a year on the Lebanese front between Israeli troops and the armed group Hezbollah, supported by Iran. The Israel Defense Forces reported a targeted airstrike on a building in the Bachura area, near the parliament.

According to Lebanese security services, the strikes hit not only the city center but also the southern suburbs, where three rockets struck areas controlled by Hezbollah. As a result of the shelling, at least seven people were injured.

Israel's airstrikes occurred after a massive Iranian missile attack on Israeli territory on October 1. In response, the Israeli army launched a ground operation in southern Lebanon with the goal of destroying Hezbollah's infrastructure. During the fighting, Hezbollah claimed to have destroyed three Israeli tanks and reported ground clashes near the border town of Maroun El-Ras.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the country is fighting against the Iranian "Axis of Evil" which aims to destroy Israel, and promised that Israel will stand firm in this conflict.

The escalation of tensions in the Middle East is causing concern among world leaders. U.S. President Joe Biden called on Israel for proportional actions and did not support strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities. Leaders of the G7 countries expressed concern and emphasized the need for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

It should be noted that Israel was attacked from Lebanon: more than 100 rockets were launched within a few hours.
