Jack Draper withdraws from the US Open due to injury

According to The Sun: British tennis player Jack Draper, who ranks fifth in the main tournament, unexpectedly withdrew from the US Open due to an arm injury.

The athlete was preparing for a match against Zizou Bergs in the second round this Thursday. However, a day before the match, it was announced that he had withdrawn, and Bergs automatically advances to the next round.

Draper, who is 23 years old, injured his left arm during the clay season. After exiting Wimbledon in the second round against Croatian Marin Cilic, he decided to take a break.

The tennis player, who spent time at an Oasis concert during his break, admitted before the US Open that he has 'bone stress, a bone bruise in the humerus on the left side.'

This issue caused discomfort, and Jack was very cautious about it.

It seems his decision to participate in the tournament in New York might have been influenced by new sponsors Vuori, who have a store on Fifth Avenue. If it weren’t for this, Draper might have decided not to go and rest before the autumn tournaments on hard courts in Asia.

On Wednesday morning, Draper practiced but felt that he wouldn’t be able to endure a possible five-set match at the Grand Slam.

“I’m sorry to announce that I will be withdrawing from the US Open. I tried to do everything possible to be here and give myself every chance to play, but the discomfort in my arm became too great. I have to do what’s right and take care of myself. Thank you for your support; it means a lot to me. See you next year, New York.”

This news came after Draper confessed that he struggled in the first round victory over Federico Agustin Gomez and even vomited on the court.

Last year Jack faced problems again: during the US Open semifinals, he suffered from nausea — he vomited FOUR times when losing to world number one Jannik Sinner.

At that time it was explained by anxiety and tension, but later he said that painkillers caused him stomach issues.

On Monday, playing in the hot afternoon in New York, nausea returned, and he felt unwell, experiencing pain in the third set.

AFP Jack Draper faces serious challenges in his career that threaten his participation in major tournaments. His injury and health problems demonstrate how difficult the path can be for professional athletes. Recovery and return to the court will take time, and we hope he can showcase his strengths again in upcoming competitions.
