Legendary darts player Jamie Harvey has died

According to The Sun: Former world number 4 Jamie 'Braveheart' Harvey has passed away at the age of 70.

This vibrant personality was one of the founders of the World Darts Council, which eventually became the PDC. He reached the semi-finals of the World Championship in 1995/96, which was a significant milestone in his 13-year career at the Circus Tavern.

Harvey was also a semi-finalist in the World Match in 1996 and participated in many tournaments including the World Grand Prix, UK Open, and Las Vegas Desert Classic.

Jamie’s son, James Harvey, stated that he 'passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones.'

“A sad day. Eternal memory, Jamie Harvey,” said former player and TV expert Alan Warriner-Little.
“Eric (Bristow) and Mace (Chris Mason) and I spent a lot of time together in our youth, usually in bars all around the world. I will miss you, mate.”

Harvey’s only title in the PDC was won at the Antwerp Open in 2000, where he defeated Roland Scholten in the final.

He became victim to a nine-dart finish by Phil Taylor at the UK Open in 2008, which was his last televised match before retiring the following year.

Jamie began his international career at the World Masters in 1983 and also competed in the BDO World Championship twice before the WDC split in 1993.

Fighting Illness and Achievements

In 2010, Harvey was diagnosed with throat cancer, after which he underwent a ten-hour operation and also went through chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

He had to have his voice box removed and a permanent laryngeal stoma installed in order to speak.

As a result of his treatment, he lost four stones in weight.

However, he remained true to his nickname 'Braveheart', continuing to play for his county of Ayrshire, showing cancer patients that life can go on.

Harvey is remembered for falling into a hole on stage during one of the funniest moments in darts history, although he denied it ever happened!

“It was a World Pairs match, we were playing against Bob Anderson and Phil Taylor. I did not fall off the stage. Sky Sports put a flower pot in front of the hole on stage,” he explained.
