Jockey Soumillon leads Lazy Griff in St Leger: can they outrun Lambourn.
According to The Sun: Charlie Johnston urged 'Super Soumillon' to showcase his talents at the Doncaster races.
Belgian jockey Christophe Soumillon will take care of Lazy Griff, who finished second in the Derby, and now aims to achieve first place at the Betfred St Leger on September 13.
Lazy Griff is the favorite with odds of 5-1 at the Betfred St Leger next month AFPPlans for the Race
This elegant young horse, with odds of 5-1, has recently shown good results, finishing second after Lambourn at Epsom and Curragh. Now, his trainer plans to increase the distance to one mile and three quarters.
The race will take place under the watch of a 10-time French champion. Willy Buick, who rode Lazy Griff during the Irish Derby, will be at Leopardstown that day, competing on Ombudsman.
Soumillon's Experience
Soumillon, 44, has already ridden this three-year-old horse twice, and the results speak for themselves – he has helped Lazy Griff achieve two career-best performances, winning a Group 3 in France and finishing second at Epsom in June.
Johnston noted: 'Christophe is an excellent and very experienced jockey, he has won on this horse and knows him well.'
'Lambourn has beaten us three times this year, but we were only three lengths behind him at Curragh and a bit more at Epsom.'
'At a longer distance, there are reasonable chances that we can turn the situation to our advantage, as we have always believed he would handle this distance in Doncaster perfectly.'
'Any rain between now and Leger day would be very welcome, the more, the better, to be honest.'
'We will try to prepare him in the best shape for Doncaster, and after that, it will all depend on him.'
The Betfred St Leger is one of the premier events in horse racing, and the participation of professionals like Soumillon raises expectations for many fans. Lazy Griff's success at this stage could be a significant milestone for his career and his jockey's career. We will watch how the upcoming races unfold and whether the team can meet expectations.
