According to The Sun: JOHN Lewis has announced the most popular toys for Christmas this year.

The department store presented the long-awaited list of toys for Christmas 2025, featuring nostalgic classics, modern tech hits, and even a wooden toy - a deep fryer.

John Lewis highlights that this assortment reflects the 'magic of traditional toys' while also aligning with modern play trends.

Wooden toys remain in demand, with this year's hit being the John Lewis wooden deep fryer, priced at £30.

Given that sales of actual deep fryers increased by 22% last month, the toy version is likely to sell out quickly before Christmas.

Another major launch is the Brio Mega Spiral Set (£124.99), exclusive to John Lewis. This is the tallest track the company has ever created, adding a new challenge to the classic wooden railway.

Retro favorites are also making a comeback.

The Sylvanian Families mark their 40th anniversary with a new Skytop Fairy Castle (£59.99) included in the list.

A special edition Christmas teddy bear Steiff (£39.90) adds a traditional touch, while Lego, UNO, and Scalextric continue to be at the heart of family entertainment.

John Lewis is also offering an exclusive Scalextric Police Chase set for £34.99.

Popular among preschoolers, the character Bluey is featured in the VTech Toot-Toot Drivers Bluey Road Trip Playset (£44.99); this year, toy sales featuring this character at John Lewis more than doubled.

For families looking for tech novelties, Tonies returns with a new Toniebox2 Starter Set (£99.99), available for pre-order later this month.

Toy expert Alan Wright from John Lewis noted:

“We worked hard to ensure there is something interesting for all kids, big and small. This year's offering is unprecedented, and each toy will provide hours of enjoyment long after Christmas.”

However, families looking for better prices should keep an eye on deals, as not all toys are the cheapest at John Lewis.

For instance, Smyths Toys is offering Uno Spin for £14.99 instead of £16.99.

The Lego Minecraft Creeper set is also £5 cheaper at Smyths, where the price is £29.99.

Meanwhile, the Tonies Toniebox2 Starter Set is available for pre-order on Amazon for £61, which is a significant saving compared to the John Lewis price of £99.99.

However, the £30 wooden deep fryer from John Lewis looks quite a good deal compared to competitors.

The wooden fryer from Dunelm is selling for £125, while Tesco offers a VonShef version for £57.99.

Therefore, parents are advised to compare prices before buying to ensure they get the best deal.

Christmas comes early

Shoppers are already beginning to stock up on Christmas gifts, hoping to avoid a hefty bill in December.

The budget online retail giant OHS reports that over 5,000 customers have already started filling out holiday wish lists, with the term 'Christmas' becoming the fourth most searched on their site, increasing by 350% compared to last year.

From Santa pillows to gingerbread kits, shoppers are filling virtual carts, aiming to reduce costs and maintain the festive spirit over the coming months.

Ashley Furness, head of purchasing, explained:

“This year, shoppers plan ahead more than ever, seeking good deals and avoiding last-minute stress.”

“Our Christmas line sold out quickly in July and August, and customers need to be quick to avoid disappointment.”
