In New Zealand, a father who had been hiding in the woods with his children for four years was shot.
Tragedy in New Zealand
According to The Sun: After four years of fleeing with three small children, 'Bushman' Tom Phillips did not plan to surrender to the police.
However, after being surrounded by armed officers on a rural road in New Zealand, he opened fire following an attempted robbery of a store.

During the shootout, Phillips shot one of the police officers, injuring him in the head, but was himself incapacitated by the officers. This marked a tragic end to a convoluted game of cat and mouse with the authorities.
Emerging Problems
Initially, Phillips survived in the wild with his three children, but later began robbing to satisfy their needs. There are suspicions that the 38-year-old farmer from the Waikato region took his daughter to a prior bank robbery.
In December 2021, after interaction with the police, he disappeared again, taking the children with him.
“I doubt there is a New Zealander who has not heard of this story”
Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister of New Zealand
Shocking Conclusion
As a result of the confrontation with the police, Phillips opened fire, leading to serious injuries for one officer, while Phillips himself died. Fortunately, the children remained unharmed.
The police managed to find Maverick and Amber, who had been left alone at a nearby campsite. The children's mother, Kat, noted: “They have been through a long and difficult journey.”
