Justin Kluivert Sets Record

According to The Sun: Bournemouth forward Justin Kluivert has received an official Guinness World Record certificate for scoring a hat-trick from penalties in the Premier League.

Nearly a year has passed since his unique achievement in the winning match 4-2 against Wolverhampton in November 2024, and now his accomplishment has been officially confirmed.

Unique Achievement

The Dutchman became the first player to score three penalties in one match. Kluivert converted two of them in the first half, and then completed his hat-trick in the second half, securing his team's victory.

This prestigious award was presented to him before the start of the match during which Bournemouth defeated Brighton 2-1 on Saturday.

Kluivert came on as a substitute in last weekend's match but could not secure a starting position, giving way to other forwards.

With the official confirmation of the record, he can now boast: “The most penalties scored by a player in an English Premier League match - 3, achieved by Justin Kluivert (Netherlands) at Wolverhampton, West Midlands, UK, November 30, 2024.”

Historical Feature

This similar achievement became historical, as his teammate, forward Evanilson, also became the first player in the English top league to win three penalties in one match.

This is the first instance of anyone scoring three penalties in one match since 1957, when Ken Barnes, playing for Manchester City, scored three penalties against Everton. Thus, Kluivert became the only player to achieve this in the Premier League.

The certificate does not mention Bournemouth, only stating that Kluivert is the 'record holder' and 'officially amazing.'

“It sounds great,” Kluivert said of his success.

“Getting into history books – it is amazing. I am incredibly happy about this achievement.”

Earlier this year, he also expressed a desire to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for another reason.

“I believe I am the first player to have scored in all six top leagues – if the Netherlands is the sixth,” he noted.

Kluivert has scored goals in leagues for Bournemouth (England), Roma (Italy), Ajax (Netherlands), Valencia (Spain), Nice (France), and RB Leipzig (Germany).

Now he can proudly call himself the holder of a world record.
