Potatoes over 50 hryvnias: why prices will rise and what will happen to other vegetables.

Potato prices in Ukraine may reach 50-55 hryvnias per kilogram this winter, - Maksym Hopka
An analyst of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club Maksym Hopka forecasts that potato prices in Ukraine may reach 50-55 hryvnias per kilogram this winter. He noted that the current wholesale price of potatoes fluctuates within 19-22 hryvnias per kilogram, and in stores, it already costs 30-35 hryvnias.
Currently, the average price of potatoes on the wholesale market is approximately 19-22 UAH per kilogram, and in supermarkets, it already costs in the range of 30-35 UAH. And this is just as we enter the first half of October," Hopka said.
Hopka explained that drought and hard soil, which made harvesting difficult in some regions, contributed to the price increase. He also noted that the price of onions will not be record-high, and carrot prices will fluctuate between the prices of onions and potatoes.
I don't think onions will historically break records, as we have already seen. They are holding at a fairly good level, with the current wholesale price being 15 UAH per kilogram.
Hopka also warned that a significant price decrease is not expected due to tax increases and higher fuel costs. He noted that this year Ukraine had a good harvest of apples and stone fruits, but prices for winter apple varieties are rising due to increased demand in foreign markets and storage costs.
