Romanian President Dan on peace: Putin does not aspire to it, but the decision is up to Ukraine.
According to ТСН: Romanian President Nicusor Dan believes that the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine in the near future is unlikely, despite active diplomatic efforts by the United States.
In an interview with Politico, he expressed a more pessimistic than optimistic view of the possibility of a quick peace.
'I am more pessimistic than optimistic in the short term. Putin seems not to aspire to peace. He believes that peace in two to three months will be more beneficial for him than peace now,' said Dan.
The Romanian leader also explained that, in his opinion, Russia is ready to continue military actions, hoping for some, albeit limited, progress on the front.
At the same time, Dan expressed hope that Russia will not be able to fully capture Donbas. He emphasized that he does not intend to pressure the Ukrainian leadership regarding possible negotiations.
'Any peace in which the aggressor receives a reward in some sense is not good for Europe and the future security of the world. But the decision regarding peace lies solely on the shoulders of the Ukrainians,' he noted.
The President of Romania emphasized that Ukraine suffers the greatest losses in this war, so international partners should not condemn any decision made by the Ukrainian side, including President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Meanwhile, Finnish President Alexander Stubb believes that negotiators have come closer to reaching a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine than ever before.
The situation in eastern Ukraine remains tense, and both countries continue to fight for their interests. Importantly, the international community continues to support Ukraine and promote diplomatic efforts to find peace. This issue remains relevant as the consequences of the conflict affect not only the region but also global stability.
