China deploys global navigation satellites in orbit.
China has launched the last pair of backup satellites for the BeiDou-3 (BDS-3) navigation system. The satellites were placed into orbit by a Long March-3B rocket and are expected to enhance navigation and positioning services for users worldwide.
China has implemented a three-stage strategy for developing its BeiDou navigation system. The first stage was providing services for domestic users, the second stage was expanding navigation to the Asia-Pacific region, and the third stage was achieving global coverage and providing services worldwide.
Upon completing the third phase, China became the third country in the world to have its own global navigation system, along with the American GPS and Russian GLONASS.
Currently, there are 30 BeiDou-3 satellites in orbit, but Chinese specialists are already working on new satellites to upgrade the system. It is planned that by 2035, China will have built a more integrated and comprehensive navigation system.
