Chinese Spies in Ukraine — Beijing to Conduct an Investigation.
China plans to investigate two of its citizens who were detained in Ukraine on suspicion of espionage. Beijing stated that it will protect its citizens, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning during a briefing.
The Chinese government expressed its position regarding the detention of a father and son in Kyiv who attempted to illegally export secret documentation related to the Ukrainian missile system RK-360MC 'Neptune'.
'If Chinese citizens are involved, we will protect their rights and legitimate interests in accordance with the law', said Ning.
The diplomat also responded to questions regarding cooperation between China and Russia, emphasizing that this cooperation is not aimed against any third country and should not provoke interference from other states.
It is noteworthy that on July 9, the detention of Chinese spies attempting to gather secret technologies was announced. They face up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Special services also detained a reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who was conducting espionage functions in favor of the Russian Federation, providing the Russians with information about the location of military forces in the Sumy region.
The tone is positive and neutral. The news conveys information regarding the detention of Chinese and Ukrainian citizens, as well as the reaction of their governments to these events.Read also
