Prospects for Kobe Main at Newcastle

According to The Sun: Newcastle may give Kobe Main a new chance from Manchester United as early as January following a not-so-successful summer transfer.

Manchester United decided to keep Main in the team, although the player hoped for a club change.

Main, 20 years old, failed to replicate the successful form he showed in the 2023-24 season under Ruben Amorim. He struggles for a starting position against team captain Bruno Fernandes.

In light of his ambitions to make the national team ahead of the World Cup, Main really wants more playing time, as he found himself on the bench again during the last Manchester derby.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle could be the team to provide him with this opportunity. According to talkSPORT, enthusiasm for the player does not exclude a mid-season transfer.

Manchester United are reportedly also impressed by Main's lack of playing time - he has only played one match out of five, starting just one.

This only start came in a humiliating penalty shootout loss for United against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.

Main has been trying to return after an injury he suffered following Amorim's appointment as manager instead of Eric ten Hag 10 months ago.

He played 31 matches under the Portuguese coach, but only started 16 times.

“Like many guys, he wants to play more,” said Amorim.

Previously, the coach did not want Main to have the impression that he was only communicating with him to keep the player in the team. “Some people think that he is there, but I believe that he can show much more,” added Amorim.

“He lacks the fight for his place; maybe he is uncomfortable, but he is a very good guy — and he strives for improvement.”

Amorim also noted: “Main needs to have technical skill, but he also needs more speed. He must play at different speeds — sometimes slower, sometimes faster. He can improve on that.”

“Maybe it’s not entirely fair, but I believe I am helping Kobe Main.”

“He needs to outplay Bruno Fernandes. He just has to get past Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte. They are also very strong players. I have to make a choice.”

Thus, Main may get a new chance in his career if Newcastle is indeed interested in his services. This could not only be an important step for the player himself but also a beneficial option for the club looking for new talents to strengthen the squad. Thus, the events surrounding Main remain on the radar of football fans and experts, as every step may be decisive in his career.
