WCIOM: Majority of Russians expect the war in Ukraine to end by 2026.
According to ТСН: The majority of Russians believe that the war in Ukraine will end in 2026.
This was revealed by a survey conducted by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center. The results may indicate that the Kremlin is studying the public's reaction to a possible peaceful resolution of the conflict amid active diplomatic efforts in this direction.
Survey Results
Deputy Head of the sociological center Mikhail Mamonov noted that 70% of the 1600 respondents believe that 2026 will be more "successful" than the current year, with 55% of them linking this hope to the ending of the so-called "special military operation" in Ukraine.
In previous surveys, WCIOM recorded an increase in support for President Vladimir Putin and his military goals, but did not provide data on what percentage of the population expects the war to end.
Support for Peace Negotiations
According to the independent sociological agency "Levada", which has the status of a "foreign agent", about two-thirds of Russians support peace negotiations. This is the highest percentage since the beginning of the war.
U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker also believes that the resolution of the conflict could happen within the next 90 days. It was previously reported that during peace talks regarding Ukraine, parties are discussing four documents, and the U.S. is trying to understand what concessions the Kremlin is willing to make to end the war.
The growing support for peace negotiations among Russians may indicate the society's desire for normalization of the situation. In light of a complex international context, active negotiations require careful monitoring from international observers and states involved in the process. It is important that all parties move towards a constructive dialogue for a peaceful resolution of a conflict that has already lasted several years.
