NATO Drills Involving Ukraine

According to Espreso.tv: At NATO's Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre, a series of exercises were conducted featuring three crisis simulations. In these war games, the Ukrainian team was assigned the role of the 'aggressor'.

The Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (Jatec) employs 60 staff members, one-third of whom are Ukrainian nationals. The training scenarios included:

  • a cyberattack on the power grid of the fictional country of Perantsa;
  • a large-scale flood;
  • hackers seizing control of the banking system.

Despite demonstrating greater creativity and superior skills in using artificial intelligence, the Ukrainian team lost two of the three scenarios by a narrow margin.

Review of Outcomes and Future Cooperation

The analysis of these results revealed that the 'aggressor's' primary weakness was an inability to maintain a consistent narrative. It is important to note that Ukraine's accession to NATO in the near future remains unlikely. Nevertheless, the country is gaining access to NATO's software and engineering capabilities, which could foster deeper military collaboration between the parties.

These exercises highlight the significance of international security cooperation and underscore Ukraine's role in addressing global challenges. Even though Ukraine is not a NATO member, its participation in such activities reflects its commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities and adapting to emerging threats like cyberattacks. This engagement could positively affect Ukraine's relationship with Alliance member states.
