Mykola Tomenko transferred compensation from the ECHR to the Armed Forces of Ukraine: what the funds were spent on.
Mykola Tomenko directed compensation to support the military
According to inkorr.com: Former MP Mykola Tomenko fulfilled the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and decided to transfer the financial compensation received to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He announced this in his Facebook post, a quote from which appeared on the 'Glavkom' website.
Tomenko noted that the funds obtained in the case 'Tomenko vs. Ukraine' were allocated for the needs of the military. In particular, together with the team from the National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine, he sent thermal concealment blankets, hygiene products, and literature for drones to the 19th Army Corps.
“For me, winning in the European Court was important for creating a judicial precedent against party dictatorship and vote-buying in parliament. Therefore, it would be fair and right if the funds from my won court case at the ECHR were paid by officials who unlawfully deprived me of my deputy mandate, and not by the warring state. This is why I decided to direct these funds from my financial compensation under the decision of the European Court of Human Rights to support the military of our army and I call upon former MPs, prosecutors, judges... not to disgrace themselves with their lawsuits against the state regarding their exorbitant special pensions and payments.”
On July 10, the European Court of Human Rights ruled in the case 'Tomenko vs. Ukraine', finding that the deprivation of the deputy's mandate in 2016 violated Article 3 of Protocol 1 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
After the Higher Administrative Court refused to recognize the decision to deprive the mandate as unlawful, Tomenko filed a complaint with the ECHR, which accepted the case for consideration in 2017.
Thus, Mykola Tomenko not only implemented the decision of the European Court of Human Rights but also used the financial compensation to support Ukrainian soldiers. This step emphasizes the importance of solidarity and support for the army in difficult times.
