Latvia’s Top General Warns Russia Could Strike NATO by Late 2028.
Russia’s Military Capabilities and NATO Risks
According to Espreso.tv: In an interview with the Financial Times, Latvia’s armed forces commander General Kaspars Pudans offered a stark assessment of Russia’s military strengths—especially its edge in drone production—and the potential threat it poses to NATO. He argued that if he were in the Kremlin, he would consider any further aggressive moves must be completed before the end of 2028. The general’s remarks come amid heightened security concerns in the Baltic region, where NATO has been reinforcing its presence.
Pudans also noted that, in his view, Russia currently lacks the resources needed to launch a large-scale invasion of NATO member states. This statement is a key point in discussions about bolstering Baltic defenses. On May 27, Reuters reported that NATO is actively working to strengthen its position in the area.
Modernizing Europe’s Armies
General Kaspars Pudans emphasized that while European nations will begin modernizing their armed forces, the tangible effects of these changes will not be felt before 2028–2029. This highlights the lengthy process of adapting and preparing armies to meet the modern challenges facing European security.
Pudans’ comments underscore the importance of strategic planning and readiness for potential threats from Russia in today’s geopolitical landscape. Strengthening Baltic defenses and modernizing European militaries are becoming critical priorities for ensuring regional security. These efforts could have long-term implications for NATO’s stability and broader European safety.
