The OpenAI competitor company will receive $1 billion from Google.

Google invested over $1 billion in Anthropic
Google has invested over $1 billion in Anthropic, a competitor of OpenAI. This gives Google a stronger position among the Silicon Valley giants competing to develop advanced artificial intelligence systems.
According to the Financial Times, Alphabet, the parent company of Google, had previously invested nearly $2 billion in Anthropic and is now increasing its stake in the startup.
Anthropic is known for its artificial intelligence models called Claude and is one of the leading startups in the emerging field of generative AI. They are creating tools for generating text, images, and code on demand.
Despite the fact that Google developed the technology used in models like Claude and OpenAI's GPT-4, the company lags in commercializing this powerful technology. The investment in Anthropic is part of Google’s strategy to diversify its business in the field of artificial intelligence and compete with strong rivals like Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon.
It is also reported that Anthropic plans to raise another $2 billion from venture investors in Silicon Valley, including from Lightspeed Venture Partners. The deal is expected to triple the startup's valuation to approximately $60 billion.
Anthropic competes with rivals like OpenAI and Elon Musk's xAI. Together they raised over $10 billion last year. There is also competition from Meta (Facebook) and Microsoft.
Anthropic’s revenue on an annualized basis reached $1 billion in December, which is 10 times higher than a year ago. However, investors do not expect quick profitability for Anthropic and its competitors due to high costs of developing leading artificial intelligence models. But they believe that new technological breakthroughs could create trillions of dollars in the future.
