Stretchable Display from KAIST Eliminates Image Distortion During Expansion.
KAIST Unveils Elastic Screen Technology
According to ITC.ua — Техно: A team at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) has unveiled an elastic display capable of preserving its original image shape even when stretched by up to 15%. This breakthrough directly tackles the common problem of image warping in flexible screens, marking a significant step forward for display technology. Such innovation is particularly relevant as demand grows for durable, adaptable screens in consumer electronics and wearables.
Research Findings and Methodology
Led by Professors Seung-Hyeop Yu and Hanul Moon, the research employed auxetic structures that allow display components to stretch while maintaining their geometry. The team tested the platform using a substrate printed with letters and images. Results showed that even after repeatedly boosting brightness by up to 15%, the brightness drop remained below 2%.
Published in the journal Nature Communications, the study highlights the technology’s potential to reshape future display devices. This elastic display could unlock new applications across electronics, advertising, and medicine, where flexible yet distortion-free screens are essential.
By enabling more adaptive and resilient screens, this innovation may fundamentally change display manufacturing. As industries increasingly seek cutting-edge solutions, elastic displays could become core components in next-generation devices, offering designers and engineers expanded creative possibilities.
