Sales of farm machinery have plummeted by a quarter, causing major disruptions. The wear and tear on the nation's tractor and machinery fleet exceeds 50%, while the annual renewal rate is a mere 3.5%, far below the required 10%. This deficit leaves the sector critically short of approximately 62,000 tractors and 34,000 combine harvesters needed for normal operations. This crisis stems from a combination of international sanctions, which have restricted access to key technologies and parts, and long-standing domestic underinvestment.

A sharp drop in crop farming profitability is another alarming indicator. By 2025, profitability is projected to fall to 15-16%, a dramatic decline from 40% in 2020. The situation is worsened by export duties, which siphon off an additional $2-3 billion in annual profits from farmers. Furthermore, government subsidies account for a negligible 1-2% of farmers' income, providing insufficient support to navigate these mounting challenges.

Such price volatility is likely driven by the equipment shortage and rising production costs, squeezing household budgets.
