Restaurant crisis in Ukraine: mass staff exodus and the threat of closures

According to inkorr.com: The restaurant sector of Ukraine finds itself in a difficult situation due to the mass departure of employees, decreasing attendance, and the threat of closures of many establishments, especially in the capital.

'We have already lost five people after this decision. And this is just the beginning. Colleagues predict that in this age group we will lose 20-30% of the staff. I have the same expectations,' - notes Stanislav Zavertaylo, co-founder of the Kyiv establishments 'Zavertaylo' and Honey.

However, the main threat to the industry has been the decrease in revenue due to the decline in people's purchasing power. Restaurant visits are sharply declining, which creates additional difficulties. Despite rising prices, real profits have not managed to increase quickly enough.

Challenges for restaurateurs

Restaurateurs warn of serious business difficulties associated with staff shortages and economic decline. Traditionally, November is the least active month for the hospitality sector, complicating the situation for business owners.

'The staff shortage is causing serious difficulties. People leave work very quickly, and the combination of limited spending and rising prices deters visitors,' - explains restaurateur Alex Cooper.

Market situation

In wartime and under seasonal fluctuations, the operation of restaurants becomes even more vulnerable. Some market players are trying to adapt their business models, but the overall situation remains complicated. Additional risks include potential changes in tax legislation that may lead to mass layoffs.
