The Spaniard spent over ten years in the league, but his career at Valencia ended at the end of last season.

He expressed gratitude to the clubs that reached out to him while waiting for his decision about continuing his career, but he decided to retire.

'Today, I want to share with all of you a deeply considered decision: I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer.'
'First of all, I believe it is necessary to thank all the clubs that reached out to me this summer and officially expressed their interest, as well as their patience while waiting for my final decision.'
'Football is my life, my passion, but not everything goes the way you want. I will hang up my boots because of the health of a close family member.'
'My heart and the values that shaped me as a person tell me that I need to be there for them. I feel that I need to be close to my family now, not far away.'

The experienced goalkeeper spent most of his career at the Spanish club Valencia.

Although Domenech mostly played as a backup goalkeeper, he made nearly 125 appearances in all competitions.

Domenech played for the club during a less than ideal period, when his coach was Manchester United legend Gary Neville.

'The journey of a professional footballer has been exciting and ends today for a greater cause, but I also want to say that I am not saying goodbye to football.'
'I am simply closing one chapter to open another.'
'Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your love and understanding.'

His announcement received an immediate reaction from teammates and colleagues across Europe.

Ex-Valencia and PSG player Carlos Soler left a touching comment, noting, 'Those of us who shared a locker room with you know everything. We love you very much, my friend! This new stage will be wonderful, I am sure. Thank you for everything.'

Recent Liverpool signing Giorgi Mamardashvili, with whom Domenech played at Valencia, also expressed support: 'You are an example for all, Jau!! I wish you luck.'

Domenech's retirement came as a surprise to many of his fans and colleagues. His decision reflects the importance of family values and support during tough times. Domenech will leave behind not only memories of his play on the field but also deep relationships forged over years in professional football. This move undoubtedly opens a new chapter in his life, where his loved ones will remain a priority.
