She was joined by leaders from Romania, Moldova, Serbia, and the Prime Minister of Croatia. This gathering serves as a key forum for advancing cooperation between Ukraine and neighboring regional states.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha confirmed that a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had taken place. Sybiha remarked:

“Kyiv welcomes distinguished guests on Ukraine’s Statehood Day. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Southeast European leaders will hold productive talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.”

Significance of the Summit

This marks the fourth such gathering in 2025, following the previous summit held in Dubrovnik. The format underscores Ukraine’s growing role in regional collaboration and joint efforts to address shared challenges.

The summit takes place amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, highlighting the critical need for regional solidarity and cooperation. These high-level meetings could prove pivotal in shaping future ties between Ukraine and its neighbors, particularly in areas of European integration and regional security. Celebrating Ukraine’s Statehood Day within such a significant international context also reinforces the importance of Ukrainian independence and sovereignty on the global stage.
