Lidl to axe lucrative loyalty card perk giving shoppers £65 off in weeks.
According to The Sun: LIDL shoppers have limited time to take advantage of a lucrative offer through the loyalty program.
The discounter is scrapping a promotion that allows customers to receive a £65 discount on a trip with Jet2Holiday through the Lidl Plus app.
AlamyCustomers who have signed up for the loyalty program will have the chance to take advantage of the discount if they book a trip by September 19.
This means shoppers have just a few weeks left to book their holiday before it is canceled.
The offer is only valid for holidays with a departure date until October 31, 2026.
To get this benefit, download the Lidl app for free via Google Play or the App Store.
Go to the “more” section in the bottom right corner of the app and then click on 'Partner Offers', where you will find this deal.
Take advantage of the offer by obtaining a code that needs to be provided during booking.
You can also combine it with other discounts, but you will not qualify for it if your child is receiving a 'free child place', meaning you do not have to pay for their share of the costs.
There must be at least two adults on the booking.
The Sun contacted Lidl for comment.
The Lidl Plus app offers various promotions and free offers.
For example, on your birthday, you may receive a free doughnut from the Lidl bakery.
There is no minimum spending requirement, and the coupon is valid for seven days from your birthday.
All you need to do is register your birthday when you first sign up for the app.
Other offers you can receive through Lidl Plus include a 10% discount on purchases if you spend £250 in-store during the month.
Holiday offers through loyalty programs
Not only Lidl offers benefits for its members, other supermarkets also have similar promotions.
Customers of Sainsbury’s Nectar can use their points with British Airways to earn Avios points and discounts.
Every 400 Nectar points are worth 250 Avios, and they transfer instantly.
Customers of Tesco Clubcard can redeem their points for discounts with Virgin Atlantic (£1.50 in vouchers is worth 300 Virgin Points) and with easyJet (50p in vouchers is worth £1).
Supermarket loyalty programs
Most supermarkets in the UK have loyalty programs that allow customers to earn points and save money while shopping. Here’s an overview of such programs at major brands:
- Iceland: Here you do not earn points with the Bonus Card. Instead, by topping it up, you receive £1 for every £20 saved.
- Lidl Plus: Lidl customers do not earn points, but receive personalized vouchers for discounts at checkout.
- Morrisons: The My Morrisons program: Make Good Things Happen replaces the More Card and gives customers personalized discount vouchers through the app.
- Sainsbury’s: Although Sainsbury’s does not have its own program, the Nectar card can also be used in Argos, eBay, and other stores. You need 200 Nectar points to get £1 on the card. To earn one point, you must spend at least £1.
- Tesco: Tesco Clubcard has over 17 million members just in the UK. When shopping, you earn points that can be exchanged for vouchers - 150 points give a voucher worth £1.50. To earn one point, you need to spend £1 at Tesco.
- Waitrose: myWaitrose does not allow you to earn points, but offers free hot drinks and discounts on certain brands.
Thus, shoppers have the opportunity to take advantage of various benefits offered by supermarkets through loyalty programs. The cancellation of the LIDL promotion highlights the importance of timely utilization of benefits, as offers may be time-limited. Stay alert for news and promotions to not miss out on valuable savings opportunities.
