Ukraine has large reserves of lithium, which is used in the production of batteries for smartphones, laptops, and electric vehicles. The reserves of this metal are estimated at millions of tons in four deposits, however, their extraction is complicated by geological and legal issues. The largest lithium deposit in Ukraine is located in Polokhivske, but its development requires the construction of a mine, which will significantly increase costs. Other deposits in Ukraine also have their difficulties: one of them is located in a conflict zone, another requires resolution of hydrogeological issues. The development of Ukrainian lithium deposits could be an important step for the country in the global market of this metal, but for this, investment, stability, and resolution of legal issues are necessary. The global lithium market is unstable due to slow growth in demand for electric vehicles and the presence of large reserves of this metal in other countries.
