Liverpool spent a record amount, yet still less than Arsenal

According to The Sun: Liverpool spent a staggering £426 MILLION this summer, twice breaking the British transfer record, strengthening an already powerful squad.

The arrival of Alexander Isak from Newcastle set a record for the Premier League as Liverpool spent an impressive £130 MILLION to finally sign the player after a lengthy saga.

This deal broke the previously set record when Liverpool agreed to a deal for £116m (initial £100m plus add-ons) with Bayer Leverkusen for new midfielder Florian Wirtz.

By adding new players like Hugo Ekitike (£69m), Milos Kerkes (£40m), Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5m), Giovanni Leonì (£26m), Georgiy Mamardashvili (£30m), and Armin Petchi (£1.5m), Liverpool can be counted as the biggest spender in the league.

However, due to their clever sales, Arsenal actually spent the most this summer when considering net spending.

Liverpool spent an impressive £205m on sales, including the transfers of players like Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Jarell Kwanza, leaving the club's net spending at only £221m.

Meanwhile, Arsenal, having signed players for a total of £241.8m, earned just £16.7m from sales.

This means they lead the league in net spending, with a resulting balance of £225.1m.

Indeed, Mikel Arteta's team has not managed to boast advantageous deals in the market in recent years, failing to receive adequate compensation for unnecessary players.

Players like Kieran Tierney, Jorginho, and Takehiro Tomiyasu left the club for free or were released this summer, while Alexander Zinchenko and Reiss Nelson only signed loan deals.

Arsenal could have generated more funds in their accounts if it weren't for the £23.5m deal for Jakub Kiwior, which is an initial loan with a purchase obligation—these funds will be accounted for in next season's accounts.

Secrets of successful sales

If Arsenal wants advice on sales, they need only look at their London neighbors - Chelsea.

Chelsea managed to achieve a net profit of £17.7m, despite spending over £260m on new signings this summer.

This was made possible through a well-thought-out transfer policy, as Todd Boehly and his partners at Clearlake Capital successfully sold £280.7m of surplus players during the window.

Notable sales included players like Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan for £36m, Kieran Dewsbury-Hall to Everton for £26m, and Noni Madueke to Arsenal for £48m.

No one earned as much as Bournemouth, who netted £92.8m after selling Dean Huysen, Milos Kerkes, Dango Uatara, and Ilya Zabainy.

Meanwhile, Manchester United found themselves in a situation similar to Arsenal, spending £215m on new signings, recouping only £61.7m.

This led the 'Red Devils,' much like 'the Gunners', to have to use the loan market to try to move players instead of permanent transfers.

The loan of Jadon Sancho to Aston Villa and the potential move of Marcus Rashford to Barcelona highlighted the difficulties faced by the Manchester United administration during the window.

Newcastle recorded net spending of £84m, largely thanks to the £130m received from the sale of Isak to Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Tottenham's late signing of Xavi Simons placed them fourth in net spending for the season, with expenditures of £110.5m this summer.

Overall, Premier League clubs approached a record spending of £3 BILLION in the transfer window.
