Liverpool sets British record: Alexander Isak transfers for £130 million.
Liverpool's Transfer Activity
According to The Sun: Almost three years ago, Jurgen Klopp made an emotional comment about the financial capabilities of clubs owned by Arab states.
The German coach noted that Liverpool cannot compete with Manchester City, Newcastle, or PSG:
“Three clubs that can do whatever they want from a financial perspective.”GettyJurgen Klopp claimed that Liverpool would never be able to compete financially with Man City and PSG GettyBut they signed Alexander Isak for £130 million
Nevertheless, after Liverpool spent £426 MILLION this summer, including a British record of £130 million on Newcastle star Alexander Isak, his words seem less relevant.
Perhaps we will smile when we recall how Liverpool actually secured their second consecutive Premier League title in six hours.
Dominik Szoboszlai's winning goal during the match against Arsenal, as well as the deal to sign Isak – is exactly what the Merseysiders needed.
Sir Alex Ferguson always talked about the importance of strengthening the team after winning titles at Manchester United.
But no champion and no club would spend as Liverpool did this summer, after they won the title with a ten-point margin last season.
Isak joined on transfer deadline day, following Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkes, Giorgi Mamaradze, Armin Peçsi, and Giovanni Leoni.
It is worth noting that the club earned about £200 million from selling their players.
Klopp, successor to Arne Slot, will be thrilled.
The Isak Transfer Saga
When Isak debuted for Newcastle at Anfield three years ago, scoring a stunning goal, it seemed that the Arab era of Geordie had begun.
And when the Swede scored the winning goal in the Carabao Cup final in March, securing Newcastle's first home trophy in 70 years, it seemed that the Magpies truly had success.
However, Liverpool and Isak had other plans.
The six-week protest by Isak worked.
Clubs with deeper squads gain an extra advantage at a time when the ability to make five substitutions is becoming normal.
But Liverpool can afford it thanks to successful work in the transfer market.
This summer they earned £200 million by selling Luis Diaz to Bayer for £65 million and Darwin Nunez to Al-Hilal for £46 million.
Also, impressive amounts were earned for young talents: Jarell Kwanza (Bayer Leverkusen, £35m), Ben Ganna Doak (Bournemouth, £25m), Tyler Morton (Lyon, £13m), and Kohinim Keller, who moved to Brentford for £12m.
So, Liverpool is capable of competing with teams owned by states. Perhaps Klopp should win more than one title.
This transfer activity underscores Liverpool's change in approach to conducting business in the market. As Klopp once noted, competition with financially powerful clubs required new strategies. It is now clear that the team is ready to use its resources to achieve new heights.
It is worth keeping an eye on the club's further steps, as such activity could significantly change the landscape in big football and affect the fight for titles in the coming seasons.
