Lubinets named the main mediator in returning Ukrainian prisoners.
Ukraine received assistance in returning its citizens from Russian captivity from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This was stated by Dmytro Lubinets, Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, during a telethon. He also noted that the UAE was an effective mediator in releasing Ukrainians.
Ukraine is also discussing with the UAE the dispatch of a humanitarian convoy to provide assistance to Ukrainian prisoners of war. However, an agreement with Russia has not yet been reached. Lubinets added that there are other countries that help in the successful return of Ukrainian military personnel.
He also stated that Ukraine receives information about prisoners from the Russian Federation. During the last prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia, Ukrainian representatives thanked the Russian side for their joint work.
Ukraine has already returned 95 citizens from Russian captivity. Previously, through UAE mediation, Ukraine freed 230 military personnel and civilians from captivity.
It should be noted that over 14,000 Ukrainian citizens are in captivity by Russian occupiers. Lubinets noted that the return of civilians is the most challenging task.
