Lubinets explained why killings of Ukrainian prisoners of war have become more frequent.
The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, claims that the killings of prisoners of war are a conscious tactic of Russia. They do this in order to intimidate their own soldiers and violate international law. He expressed this opinion in an interview with Radio Liberty in Brussels.
Lubinets believes that Russia is trying to 'tie' Russian soldiers with blood and convince them that they are war criminals. The killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war is another way to achieve this goal. The Ombudsman also points out that Russia is trying to demonstrate the inefficiency of the international humanitarian law system.
Dmytro Lubinets believes that sanctions should be imposed against Russians who are involved in the killings of prisoners of war. Only drastic economic sanctions can stop Russian aggression, everything else is ineffective. According to him, the situation is deteriorating every day.
