Lyudmyla Kichenok repeated the national record of Ukraine in tennis rankings.
Ukrainian tennis player Lyudmyla Kichenok set a new national record in the WTA rankings. This happened after the rankings were updated on September 23.
At the beginning of September, Kichenok already set a national record in doubles after winning the US Open. She climbed to fifth place in the world ranking.
Two weeks later, Kichenok broke the national record again and moved to third place in the world ranking, surpassing Gabriela Dabrowski and Elise Mertens.
Updated WTA ranking (doubles)
- Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) - 8780 points
- Erin Routliffe (New Zealand) - 7645
- Lyudmyla Kichenok (Ukraine) - 6165
- Gabriela Dabrowski (Canada) - 6125
- Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) - 5948
In addition to breaking the national record in doubles, Lyudmyla Kichenok also repeated Ukraine's record in all world rankings. Previously, this record was held by Elina Svitolina, who reached third place in the WTA singles ranking in September 2017.
In the entire history of its existence, only three Ukrainian tennis players have entered the top-5 world rankings of the WTA and ATP. In 1994, Andriy Medvedev held fourth place in the men's singles ranking.
Lyudmyla Kichenok is a 32-year-old Ukrainian tennis player from Dnipro. She is the winner of 11 WTA doubles tournaments, including 5 titles won in partnership with Jelena Ostapenko. She also won two Grand Slams: the 2024 US Open women's doubles and the 2023 Wimbledon mixed doubles.
In the current season, Lyudmyla Kichenok won three tournaments: in Eastbourne, Brisbane, and New York. This is her record number of titles in one year, just like in 2022.
