Luke Littler's winning streak of 19 matches was interrupted: how it happened.
According to The Sun: The winning run of LUKE LITTLER, which lasted over ten games on the big stage, was interrupted by Jan van Ven.
This young talent suffered a 6-4 defeat against the promising Dutchman in the third round of the Czech Darts Open.
AlamyLittler, 18 years old, started his winning streak on the televised stage with the World Matchplay in mid-July.
He won in Blackpool, took both World Series tournaments in Australia and New Zealand, and also the Flemish Trophy in Belgium last week.
Littler defeated Cameron Menzies and made it to the last 16, but complained about the heat on stage.
However, van Ven, 23 years old, proved to be too strong an opponent in their match in Prague and secured his third consecutive win over 'Nuclear,' as he referred to Littler as a 'beast' in tough moments.
'The first set was terrible again. It's not the first time in the last two weeks.'
'Throughout the game, I played well, but he missed some opportunities, particularly in the last set when he missed the 25. But I am very happy with this victory.'
'Last week you saw how he was in the final against Josh Rock. Josh hit 161 to tie it at 7-7. Luke found himself with an 11-darter in the deciding leg.'
'He is so good in those pressure situations. When I hit 76 to lead 5-3. Then I thought I need to start well, but it was 59, 56. That leg was lost.'
'He started with 140, 123, 180. In the last leg as well, but he missed those chances. That was the crucial moment in the game.'
If the game had gone to a deciding leg, you would know what kind of 'beast' Luke Littler is. It will always be tough, but fortunately, that didn't happen.
The game was tense after two early breaks for each player.
Key moment of the match
The key moment in the match was van Ven's break in the eighth leg with a finish of 76 and two halves. This left Littler in a tough position as he needed to win the next three legs to save the match.
“Nuclear” contemplated defeat but managed to pull back one leg before missing crucial chances to level the score at 5-5.
Van Ven soon punished him and progressed to the quarter-finals.
This defeat marked an important milestone in Littler's career. Despite the stop in the third round, his performances in tournaments demonstrated that the young player has great potential. Further work on mistakes and the experience gained can pave the way for success in the future, as the competitions are still ongoing.
