Many visitors expressed their outrage on social media. One user wrote:

“It's a shame that the store is not relocating. Poor employees.”
Another added:
“I hope Bonmarche finds a new spot in the center, as it is a great store with a nice selection.”

“Soon we will have no stores left.”

The closure of the store came after a large clearance sale, where shoppers had the opportunity to buy products at discounts.

A representative of Bonmarche previously noted:

“Unfortunately, we have no choice but to close, as the Brunswick Center in Scarborough is shutting down.”

“But we love Scarborough and are actively looking for a new location in the local area.”

As part of the renovation, several other stores have also closed, and the new name of the center will be SQ1.

The center, which has 31 retail outlets, will definitively close on September 17 after more than thirty years of operation in the city.

It is expected that after the renovation is completed, the center will be able to attract more visitors, benefiting local residents, businesses, and the community.

Among the closed stores is New Look, which closed on September 5.

A representative of the chain reported:

“Thank you to all our colleagues and the local community for their support over the years.”

“We hope that shoppers will continue to shop with us online at newlook.com, where all our product categories are represented.”

Other stores that previously operated in the Brunswick Center were also required to relocate due to the shutdown.

However, The Fragrance Shop, Holland & Barrett, Toyland, and Nomination have already found new locations in the center of Scarborough.

For example, the Next store has moved to a new, larger premises on Simmer Road.

What is happening on the shopping streets?

This year, several brands have been forced to close their stores due to rising costs.

For instance, the charity shop chain Scope closed three of its retail outlets last weekend, concluding the closure of more than 50 stores this year.

In total, the chain is considering closing 77 of 138 of its stores nationwide.

Also, Original Factory Shop closed a number of stores this year, including one in Inverness, where a 50% discount sale began due to the closure.

New Look has also closed numerous stores, bringing in advisors for a strategic review.

At this point, it is not quite clear how long this process may take.

The chain has already warned that it plans to close about 100 stores ahead of a hike in national contributions that took effect in April.
