Major high street chain with 800 stores to close 11 shops TODAY as 48 to shut for good.
According to The Sun: The Poundland chain is closing 11 branches as part of a major restructuring.
The company has started massive sales, with prices in some stores reduced by up to 75%.
Poundland closes 11 stores today, hitting shoppers hard AlamyThis follows the company confirming the closure of 48 stores this month. Just in August, it closed 37 branches, and today adds another 11.
Poundland currently has about 800 stores across the country but plans to reduce that number to 650-700. This includes 68 stores that will close by mid-October, as well as additional ones that will close when their leases expire and are not renewed.
This news comes after Poundland was rescued from bankruptcy this week.
The High Court approved restructuring plans just days before the company was set to run out of cash.
Lawyers had warned that the chain needed approval for store closures, rent reductions, and staff layoffs to avoid a cash shortfall by September 7.
Poundland was bought by Gordon Brothers for £1 in June, who announced a £90 million investment to rescue the business. The court-approved restructuring plan involves closing 68 stores, cutting 1,000 jobs, and closing two warehouses, affecting 350 employees.
Online sales will also be halted, and rent for unprofitable stores will be reduced. Poundland began closing stores for savings but still needed to pay rent. Now that the restructuring is approved, the company can walk away from these leases to reduce costs.
Another 16 stores, the closure of which has not yet been confirmed, are also slated for closure. The restructuring includes cutting rent on 180 stores and discontinuing the sale of frozen goods and online shopping.

Despite the struggles, Poundland plans to expand its £1 product range, particularly in women’s clothing and seasonal items, if the restructuring goes successfully.
