According to The Sun: Manchester United is going through tough times after Benjamin Sesko seemed hesitant to take the penalty against Grimsby Town.

The Red Devils were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by a League Two team after a tense penalty shootout.

United lost 0-2 in the first half at Blundell Park but managed to bring the game to penalties thanks to goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire.

The penalties were nerve-wracking: only Clark Oduor from Grimsby and Matheus Cunha from United failed to convert their attempts before the final shot.

As United players stepped up one by one to take the ball and scored, fans realized that Sesko had not yet participated in the shootout. He finally approached the spot as the tenth kicker for the team.

This meant that 22-year-old Sesko had only just surpassed goalkeeper Andre Onana in line to take the kick.

He skillfully bypassed Grimsby goalkeeper Christie Pym, but many fans were left concerned that the forward was only going to step up for the penalty as a last resort.

“Benjamin Sesko, taking the tenth penalty in a shootout against a League Two team, should be a major warning sign for a £70m forward.”
“Sesko has never missed a penalty. Why did he not want to take it today? This is very strange.”

Another fan pointed out: “I am not happy that Sesko was the last outfield player to take the penalty. It doesn’t give me hope.”

Sesko had previously taken 11 penalties in club and international football and converted all of them.

Manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged after the game that penalties no longer mattered, as the humiliation had already occurred.

“In the end, penalties do not matter. After the game, regardless of whether you win or lose, the feeling [about the 90 minutes] should be the same.”

Grimsby now has a chance for another important game in the third round, facing Sheffield United at their Hillsborough stadium.

This match poses a constant challenge for Manchester United, as the team tries to get back on the winning path after this disappointing match. It should be noted that results in the Carabao Cup can significantly affect the players' morale and future performances in the season.
