According to The Sun: Manchester United plans to use friendly matches abroad to offset financial losses after a failed attempt to qualify for European competitions this season.

The Manchester team lost £100 million after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham in May and finishing the league in 15th place.

United's disappointing campaign not only deprived the club of the opportunity to play in European competitions but also, along with the unexpected defeat in the Carabao Cup, left the team with ONE match in December - a home match against West Ham on the 3rd.

Friendly matches for financial support

According to SunSport reports, Ruben Amorim's team intends to use the extra time for preparation, competing against several leading European teams in a series of winter friendly matches.

United could have up to eight days between Premier League matches, not counting three international breaks in the fall, allowing for semi-competitive matches and preparation for more serious competitions.

The club intends to arrange matches with teams such as AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Lazio, and Sevilla, who also failed to secure European football this season.

These friendly encounters could bring in additional revenue - for instance, playing against Milan in the UAE, while other clubs from the 'big six' battle in the Champions League.

Although earnings from friendly matches may be small compared to the revenues from European qualifiers, they could significantly help offset some of the club's losses.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team earned around £7.8 million during preseason tours in Asia and nearly reached the same amount throughout the month during a trip to the USA.

United could expect to receive about half of this amount if they split profits with Milan or even a larger share from matches with Leipzig or Lazio.

Planning team trips

Meanwhile, SunSport reports that Amorim is considering organizing a series of team trips during the additional time off.

The Portuguese coach believes that trips to the Algarve or the Middle East may allow players to spend more time together and strengthen team bonds.

While a final decision has not yet been made, there are arguments that breaking from daily training at Carrington and changing the environment could help strengthen the team.

The former Sporting CP coach enjoyed the time spent with his team in Chicago during the summer Premier League games.

Currently, United may gain the same advantages from overseas trips that Arsenal receives from winter visits to Dubai in February.

Amorim is preparing for his third Manchester derby this week, having achieved United's first victory of the season, winning 3-2 against Burnley before the two-week international break.

Thus, Manchester United is looking for various ways to improve its financial situation after a difficult start to the season. Organizing friendly matches abroad could be a good step in supporting the team and attracting additional funds. It remains to be seen whether these strategies will yield success and ensure the team's progress in the future.
