According to The Sun: Roy Keane's daughter, Caragh, shared how her battle with lupus became the impetus for starting her own business, just a few years after the illness forced her to leave her job.

The 29-year-old learned of her autoimmune disease in 2021 when she was 25. The symptoms she faced included painful joints, skin blisters, and hair loss.

Due to the severe symptoms, Caragh was unable to work, which forced her to give up her 'dream job' teaching at a school in Manchester. This made her empathize with the life she could have had.

Now, after a significant improvement in her condition, Caragh, one of five children of legendary Manchester United footballer Roy Keane and his wife Theresa Doyle, has launched her own gut product line – Superkeen muesli.

Starting the Business

Caragh noted that her fight with illness inspired her to create this product. The inability to engage in sports prompted her to explore other ways to improve health, particularly gut health.

“It happened about five years ago. I started experiencing these symptoms that ranged from very painful joints to hair loss and skin blisters.”

“I thought it was due to stress at the time. I was teaching and thought, 'Oh, I'm just very tired.' I would even fall asleep at the wheel.”

“The experience was shocking, as I eventually couldn't move and was basically bedridden for about three months.”

Caragh admits that she had never heard of lupus before, and the diagnosis was a real shock to her.

She is among three sisters – Alanna, Shannon, and Lay – and one brother, Aidan. Previously, the Keane family tried to avoid the spotlight, but now the parents actively support her business.

“They have been very supportive. We have a food event in Dublin this weekend,” – Caragh noted.

“My mom and I attend all the food events. I enjoy it, and I love interacting with people,” – Caragh added.

Last year, Roy Keane also shared Superkeen boxes with his colleagues Gary Neville and Ian Wright during a recording of the Stick to Football podcast.

“My daughter Caragh has a health-related business. I am proud, very proud.”

“I am really pleased as she has been through a lot, and I say this not just because it's nice, but it’s delicious. I am very happy for her.”

Caragh Keane shows how to turn challenges into opportunities, finding strength within after a difficult period. Her experience battling lupus has not only changed her life but also encourages others to seek pathways to health and well-being. Parental support adds confidence to the continued growth of her business, which may serve as an example for many young entrepreneurs.
